You get to try out four weapons during the demo(pistol, heavy machine gun, semi automatic machine gun and shotgun), and they all felt pretty solid(the pistol could have a bit more power to it though) What I noticed was that the AI sometimes actually changed cover if you shot at them. And I have to say that the shooting felt nice. When you reach the meeting point another cutscene follows, before you start blowing up cars and killing (good?) guys. But then I figured I could do all that without getting killed on my Xbox 360, and thats why the Xbox is a better invention than what a time machine ever would be.Īnyways. Just when that song started playing on the radio, I wished that I had a time machine, could travel back to the fifties, join the Mafia, and kill that sun of a bitch who was messing with the mob. I listened to "Lucile" on my way to the mission. They've really done a great job creating the authentic feel of America in the fifties(as it's presented in the movies, anyways) It's also worth mentioning that the soundtrack(at least what I heard of it) was exactly what you would expect of a game set in the fifties. As you drive trough the city, you'll notice the fantastic atmosphere that 2k games have created. However, I didn't do a whole lot of driving, so I don't feel completely authorized in give the driving a final sentence yet. The cars in the fifties were apparently not as easy to maneuver as today, so expect slower and heavier cars, than in GTA IV. It's actually good, if you consider realistic sandbox games a good thing. Don't misunderstand me "heavy" isn't bad. The driving in the demo feels heavy, and I guess that's what 2k was aiming for. After the cutscene, you need to drive to a meeting spot. You early on get the sense that Vito is new in "the family", and that this mission is for him to prove himself. You play as the character Vito, who is supposed to take down this guy who's obviously on a bad note with the Mafia. The demo starts of with a cut scene explaining the mission you're about to take on. The trailers I've watched and the articles I've read have really convinced me that Mafia 2 will truly be an amazing game. I don't think I've ever expected so much of a demo before. Also runs extremely well on my 2 year old rig.Taken fro my blog: The Mafia 2 demo hit Xbox Live today(Gold members only, this week), and I downloaded it as soon as I turned on my Xbox 360. The lighting and models looked amazing though. I had loads of jaggies even with AA enabled and 1680x1050 resolution. Only thing that bugged me was the lack of specific AA options. I played the PC demo and i gotta say, the shooting and controls felt absolutely perfect. As far as the PC being greater than the console versions. "From the sound of it, it seems its going to be like the first mafia game. Shame really, cos' both the time period and the story seems interesting and very well put together. I hope that this is an old e3 demo or something and the technical hiccups are corrected in the final version ( doubt it ). Also i hardly ever mind jaggies and screen-tearing but i gotta say Mafia 2 really suffers from both of those in a big way. But the game runs poorly: under 30fps pretty much the whole time, it makes the shooting and driving more frustrating that it already is. " Played to 360 version and gotta say that technically it's not that impressive, sure there is a lot of attention to detail and models look great etc. I think I may have just been swayed into choosing this over Kane and Lynch 2 due to the said: Enjoying not having to unload a whole clip into a guy for him to go down - 2 bullets usually does it). I've got a pretty beefy rig but not a monster by any standard and am getting an average of around 40FPS at 1920x1080 with everything maxed minus AA and Physx (can't even turn on the latter due to the performance hit - the destructible items in game are still pretty well done though, the bullets really feel like they pack a punch on both enemies and your surroundings. "PC version runs like a dream - I guess the devs previous PC-centric experience probably shows here (the PS2 port of the original was awful from what I've heard also although I don't know whether or not that was an inhouse job or not). Said: " Played to 360 version and gotta say that technically it's not that impressive, sure there is a lot of attention to detail and models look great etc.
